How to Develop an Effective Skin Care Routine
Developing an effective skin care routine is essential to maintaining healthy and glowing skin. With the number of products and options available, it is easy to be overwhelmed or confused when building such a routine.
To simplify this, we’ve broken it down to the very basics. These are the foundational steps that must be a part of any skin care routine:
- Cleanse
Cleansers remove oil, dirt, bacteria, and makeup from the skin. A cleanser should be mild enough to keep your natural skin barrier intact while strong enough to remove the impurities. There are a variety of cleansers in the market including bar soaps and liquid cleansers.
- Treat
Treat your skin with serums after cleansing. Serums contain high concentrations of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, vitamin E among others. Such elements are essential to developing and maintaining healthy skin. Serums are good for your skin even if you do not have any specific skin concerns. Long term use helps prevent the signs of ageing and keeps the skin vibrant.
- Moisturize
After treating your skin, moisturizing is essential to keep the skin hydrated and prevent water loss. Hydration is a key factor to keep the skin glowing and elastic so moisturizers are important to preventing oiliness or dryness. A good moisturizer should also be non-comedogenic so that it does clog pores.
- Protect
The first 3 steps clean, treat and moisturize your skin. Now, it is important to protect the skin from external factors, especially UV rays. Sunscreens are a must to this effect and prevent the skin from damage brought on by UV radiation. A good sunscreen should be a broad spectrum with SPF 30 or higher and non-comedogenic. Also, it is important to wear sunscreen daily, irrespective of the presence of clouds or rain as UV rays can come through clouds and windows to affect the skin.
